RSPO

RSPO (Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil) was established to address the negative impacts of the massive global demand for palm oil, including in Indonesia and Malaysia, where palm oil was the primary cause of tropical rainforest deforestation. The RSPO certification guarantees that palm oil complies with environmental and social principles and criteria.

BRCGS

The BRC Food Certificate from the British Retail Consortium - a certification that sets some of the highest standards for food manufacturers in terms of management, product safety, hygiene, authenticity and employee training. The requirements include detailed descriptions of all procedures and work processes, which are checked annually by a certifying body, and all BRC requirements are reviewed in our internal audits.

SMETA

SMETA is a globally recognized standard that measures a company’s work with CSR initiatives, such as working conditions, -safety and business ethics. In Kohberg, we are associated with the SMETA audit through our SEDEX membership, and we therefore set high standards for our own role as a responsible employer.

Responsible packaging – Preparing for the future

At Kohberg, we are committed to responsible packaging practices and reducing the environmental impact of our packaging.

We are actively working in accordance with the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which aims to reduce packaging waste, improve recyclability and establish harmonised packaging requirements across Europe.

The regulation has applied since 12 August 2026, with additional requirements being introduced gradually.

The key focus areas include:

  • Reducing packaging waste: Minimising unnecessary packaging materials and excess space in packaging.

  • Designing for recyclability: Developing packaging solutions that support effective recycling and, where relevant, reuse.

  • Increasing recycled content: Preparing for future requirements concerning the use of recycled materials in plastic packaging.

  • Limiting harmful substances: Ensuring compliance with restrictions on substances of concern, including PFAS in food-contact packaging.

  • Improving labelling: Preparing for harmonised EU labelling requirements to support correct waste sorting and recycling.

We continuously develop our packaging solutions to meet evolving European regulations while ensuring product protection, food safety and responsible resource use.
